In 1923, the slow climb of Hopper was finally successful. During a summer tour through Gloucester, Massachusetts, he met again Josephine Nivison, an artist and former student of Robert Henri. They were opposites: short, accessible, gregarious, sociable, egalitarian, hidden, shy, quiet, introspective and conservative. They were tall.

A year later, they were married. He commented that’ sometimes talking to Eddie is as if he were going to throw a stone into a pool, except that it doesn’t thump when it reaches the bottom’. The rest of their lives revolved around their spacious apartment in South Truro in Cape Cod in the town and their summers. She was his primary model and his life partner, manager of his profession and interviews.

In the 1923 exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, six of the Gloucester aquarels from Hopper were admitted with the aid of Nivison. One was purchased by the Mansard Roof for a permanent collection amounting to $100. Typically, the critic enthusiastic about his work; one said, “How vital, power and direct! See what could you have done with the houseliest subject.”The following year, Hopper sold all his aquarelles at a one-man show and finally decided to put a copy behind him.

 How Did Thomas Edward Hopper Died?

On 15th of May 1967, Hopper died in his studio in New York City near Washington Square. His wife died ten months later and was buried with him. Two days later, he was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery’s family plot at his home town of Nyack (New York).

The Whitney Museum of American Art has been given over three thousand of her work to his wife’s collection[55]. The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Des Moines Art Center and the Art Institute of Chicago have also taken part in many important paintings by Hopper.
